Statement
Veteran (East New York, Brooklyn) with handwritten autobiography
2024
archival digital photograph
22" x 36"

"I am African American and Italian, with roots in both South Carolina and Brooklyn. I was born in Brooklyn, New York.

During my time on active duty in the Army, I worked as a Cargo Specialist. Over the years, I drove more than 80,000 miles in an LTV with trailers (18 wheelers). I was responsible for moving equipment by connecting vehicles, pallets, and containers to ships, vehicles, and airplanes.

I was considered homeless but I refused to stay in a shelter, so Housing Plus worked with me and helped me obtain my home. I've been with them since March 2021. It's been nothing but good to me.

I am really shy. I have social anxiety and low self-esteem even though I get compliments every day of my life :/"
